The Department of Home Affairs will mandate Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for all ImmiAccount users starting 18 June 2025, significantly boosting security for Australia’s visa and immigration services.
Under the new measures, both new and existing users must enable MFA when logging in or modifying account details. Once activated, MFA will be required for every login, reducing the risk of unauthorized access. Users will retain the ability to reset their authentication method directly within ImmiAccount.
How to Prepare for the Change
To ensure a smooth transition, the Department advises users to:
Download an authenticator app (such as Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator) on their mobile device or computer.
Verify their email address if they haven’t logged into ImmiAccount in the past six months.
Why the Change Matters
ImmiAccount serves as the primary online portal for visa applications and immigration services. MFA adds a critical security layer beyond passwords, aligning with the Australian Government’s stringent cybersecurity standards.
Next Steps
From 18 June 2025, detailed setup instructions will be available within ImmiAccount. For further details, users can visit the official Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for ImmiAccount resource.
This update underscores the government’s commitment to safeguarding user data amid rising global cyber threats.
