In a significant move to boost tourism and ease travel, Jordan and Russia have officially signed a 30-day visa-free agreement. This new policy allows citizens of both countries to visit each other without the need for visas, streamlining travel for stays up to 30 days and eliminating fees and lengthy paperwork.
Previously, Russian tourists visiting Jordan obtained a visa on arrival, costing 40 Jordanian dinars (around USD 56.42), valid for one month. Jordanians traveling to Russia faced a more complex process, requiring in-person consular applications supported by invitation letters and other documents.
Under the new agreement, travelers can stay visa-free for up to 30 calendar days per visit, with a maximum total stay of 90 days within any 12-month period. This mutual visa exemption was approved by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and is expected to promote more short-term tourism between the two nations.
Tourism Boom in Jordan
Jordan’s tourism sector has seen robust growth, with a 16.3 percent increase in tourism revenue in the first two months of 2025 alone, reaching USD 1.28 million, according to the Central Bank of Jordan. Tourist arrivals surged by 18.5 percent, supported by a 12 percent rise in spending from Jordanian expatriates and nearly 15 percent more spending from American tourists compared to the previous year.
Russia’s New Tourist Measures
To enhance its tourism infrastructure, Russia is introducing a 1 percent tourist tax starting in 2025, planned to increase to 3 percent by 2027. Additionally, from June 30, 2025, visa-exempt tourists must submit a digital pre-arrival application through the RuID mobile app at least 72 hours before entering Russia. This application requires personal details, a photo, and trip information, and generates a QR code necessary for border entry, where biometric data will also be collected.
