SILVER SPRING, Md. — The Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc. (CLINIC) denounced the Trump administration’s decision to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for nationals of Afghanistan and Cameroon, calling the move “inhumane and indefensible.
CLINIC Executive Director Anna Gallagher warned that deporting Afghans to Taliban-controlled Afghanistan could be a “death sentence,” particularly for women, girls, and individuals affiliated with military or Western institutions. Cameroon, she noted, remains embroiled in a worsening humanitarian crisis.
“If TPS is terminated, the U.S. must provide alternative legal pathways for these individuals,” Gallagher said. “Failure to act could have life-or-death consequences for those seeking refuge here.”
The announcement follows recent Trump administration actions to revoke TPS for Venezuela and partially end protections for Haiti.
Gallagher urged compassion, citing the observance of Holy Week: “As Catholics commemorate Christ’s sacrifice, we are called to love without borders. We cannot abandon our neighbors to violence and persecution.”
CLINIC advocates for expanded protections for vulnerable migrants facing unsafe conditions in their home countries.
