by jingji17

Washington, DC – The Biden Administration announced key immigration measures today, including an extension of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for nationals of El Salvador, Ukraine, Sudan, and Venezuela, as well as the addition of Romania to the Visa Waiver Program.

Ben Johnson, Executive Director of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), praised the move, stating that the TPS extension will provide critical relief to individuals from countries still facing severe instability.

“This decision offers much-needed protection for those whose homelands remain in turmoil,” Johnson said. “Hundreds of AILA members have advocated for these steps, and we commend the administration for taking action. By leveraging the Secretary of Homeland Security’s authority, these measures will save lives and keep families together.”

The inclusion of Romania in the Visa Waiver Program was also highlighted as a positive development, expected to streamline travel and improve mobility between the two nations.

The TPS extension applies to eligible nationals already residing in the U.S., shielding them from deportation and allowing them to work legally while conditions in their home countries remain unsafe. The Biden Administration has faced ongoing pressure from advocates to extend protections for vulnerable immigrant communities.

AILA, a leading association of immigration attorneys, has long supported such policies, arguing that they uphold humanitarian values while strengthening immigration system efficiency.
