The Philippines has seen a remarkable 28% increase in travel searches from India following its announcement of visa-free entry for Indian passport holders, according to visa platform Atlys.
The new policy allows Indian nationals to enter the Philippines visa-free for up to 14 days, significantly boosting the country’s appeal as a Southeast Asian destination. Previously ranked eighth among Indian travellers’ preferred destinations in the region, the Philippines has now surged to third place, trailing only Thailand and Indonesia.
Atlys projects this elevated demand—ranging between 20% and 30%—to continue in the coming months, highlighting the strong influence of visa accessibility on travel interest within India’s fast-growing outbound tourism market.
Demographics and Travel Patterns
Couples and honeymooners form the largest group of prospective travellers, accounting for 42% of searches. Solo travellers represent 27%, mainly from major cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru. Families comprise 21%, often planning multi-stop itineraries combining beach destinations like Palawan and Cebu with urban experiences in Manila.
Attracting First-Time International Travellers
The visa-free policy particularly appeals to first-time international travellers from India by removing visa application hurdles. This simplification encourages more Indians to explore international destinations, positioning the Philippines among an expanding list of countries offering visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to Indian tourists, including Thailand, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Seychelles, Indonesia, Maldives, Nepal, and Hong Kong.
Entry Requirements and Extended Benefits
Indian visitors may stay visa-free for a non-extendible 14-day period, with requirements including a passport valid for six months beyond the stay, confirmed accommodation, proof of financial means, and return or onward tickets. Those holding valid visas or residence permits from the US, Japan, Australia, Canada, Schengen states, Singapore, or the UK enjoy an extended 30-day visa-free stay.
Improved Connectivity Fuels Growth
Starting October 2025, Air India will operate direct flights between Delhi and Manila, enhancing accessibility and supporting further growth in Indian tourism to the Philippines.
