NILC Condemns Trump Administration’s Expansion of Travel Ban, Citing Racial Bias

by jingji17

WASHINGTON — The National Immigration Law Center (NILC) sharply criticized the Trump administration’s newly expanded travel ban, arguing it unfairly targets people of color and lacks legal justification.

In a proclamation issued Wednesday, the administration broadened restrictions that would bar entry to hundreds of millions of individuals from predominantly Black and Brown communities. NILC President Kica Matos called the move an arbitrary escalation of previous bans affecting Muslim-majority and African nations.

“This expansion weaponizes immigration policy to exclude people based on race and nationality,” Matos said. “The ban’s disproportionate impact on communities of color reveals its discriminatory intent. We urge all Americans to reject these unjust measures.”

The NILC, a leading immigrant rights organization, pledged solidarity with affected groups and vowed legal and advocacy challenges. The group has published a full analysis of the proclamation on its website.

The White House has defended the policy as necessary for national security, though critics argue it mirrors earlier bans struck down by courts.
