The United States is intensifying scrutiny over Green Card applications, particularly targeting holders of the EB-1A visa category, which is reserved for individuals of extraordinary ability. The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has begun re-evaluating several approved applications amid concerns about fraud and misuse.
Immigration attorney Rahul Reddy disclosed that many of the applications under review belong to Indian nationals, with numerous approvals now facing potential revocation. According to Reddy, some applicants exploited loopholes by publishing in low-quality journals, fabricating citations through coordinated co-authorship, and leveraging questionable awards such as the Stevie and Globee to bolster their credentials.
Social media reports have surfaced alleging a network of approximately 200 individuals who collaborated to artificially enhance each other’s profiles, even marketing these unethical tactics as paid services.
The crackdown has received support from many Indian applicants who adhered to legal immigration requirements and are hopeful that these enforcement actions will restore fairness and integrity to the immigration process. However, experts warn that the controversy may prompt USCIS to reconsider or possibly phase out the EB-1A visa category altogether.
Legal analysts further caution that a new wave of enforcement could result in reopening and revoking previously granted Green Cards, heightening uncertainty for many visa holders.
In a related immigration enforcement move, the US Department of Justice has penalized California-based tech staffing firm Epik Solutions for discriminating against American workers by favoring foreign nationals on H-1B visas. This case marks the first outcome under the revived Protecting US Workers Initiative, a federal effort aimed at safeguarding jobs for American employees. Epik Solutions must pay $71,916 in civil penalties and revise its hiring policies to comply with immigration laws.
